As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, northbound Route 53 is closed between Belmont and Arlington.
NICOR and emergency personnel are at the scene, the Village said.
As of 8 a.m. Thursday, drivers were asked to avoid the area.
Police did not provide further information on the crash, stating that it "is still under investigation."
Westbound traffic will still flow on the median; drivers should proceed with caution.
The intersection is closed in all directions as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.
A public hearing about the project will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25 at the Ovation Center, 349 S. Weber Road.
Throughout construction, at least one lane in both directions will be maintained on Route 53 and on Renwick Road.
