Catalytic Converter Thief Tried To Flee Romeoville Police: Cops

Romeoville Police said Antwaun Walker had been wanted in connection with multiple catalytic converters thefts and fleeing and eluding.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — A 28-year-old Chicago man faces multiple criminal charges after he was arrested Wednesday in connection with multiple thefts of catalytic converters, Romeoville Police said on Thursday.

Antwaun Walker has been charged by police with aggravated fleeing and eluding and aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle, police said.

Police said that officers were conducting surveillance involving a person that was suspected of numerous catalytic converter thefts, and prior incidents of fleeing and eluding, police said.

While conducting surveillance, officers saw Walker in a vehicle previously used in the prior offenses, police said.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, at which time the suspect again tried to flee in the vehicle. Following a short pursuit, officers were able to stop the vehicle and the suspect ran away on foot, Naperville police said. Officers immediately set up a perimeter and with cooperation from a nearby homeowner were able to locate the hiding subject, who voluntarily surrendered to police a short time later.

The vehicle and the registration on the vehicle had been stolen from other towns, police said. In addition to the charges filed, Walker also faces additional criminal charges, police said on Thursday.
