College Football: Northern Looks to Apply 'The Stinger' in MAC Title Game

Pride of Romeoville High School has rushed his way into the record books during a historic season at NIU.

Can you say, "Ouch?"

The Stinger is looking to pinch a Falcon—and bite off one more bit of history, too.

Romeoville High School graduate Cameron Stingily—aka The Stinger—and the Northern Illinois University football team will face Bowling Green at 7 p.m. Friday in the MAC Championship game at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Huskies (12-0) completed their first undefeated regular season in history as an FBS team with a 33-14 victory over Western Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 26. NIU went 10-0 in 1963 and won the College Division National Championship.

Stingily, a 6-foot-1, 244-pound junior bruiser, rushed for 49 yards on 14 carries against Western Michigan. In the process, he joined Heisman Trophy hopeful Jordan Lynch, NIU's quarterback, in a select club. Lynch and Stingily are the first two backs in NIU history to each rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season.

Stingily has 1,007 yards to his credit. Lynch's total is at 1,755. And they're not done yet.

Northern, ranked No. 14 in the BCS Standings, can all but clinch a second straight BCS bowl bid with a victory over the Falcons (9-3). The MAC title game will be televised on ESPN2.
