Detours, Lane Closures Coming As IDOT Work On I-55, Weber Road Resumes

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Local drivers may experience lane closures along the Interstate 55 and Weber Road Interchange starting Friday as the Illinois Department of Transportation continues work at the interchange.

The $47.9 million project includes reconfiguring and widening the existing interchange into what IDOT calls a diverging diamond design. The project also adds a third lane of traffic in each direction of Weber Road between Normantown Road and 119th Street and Rodeo Road, IDOT said in a news release.

Work crews will also be installing more modern traffic signals at the intersection of Normantown Road, Remington Boulevard and Windham Parkway, Rodeo Road, and Remington Boulevard as well as at the interchange ramps. The project also includes the installation of new LED lighting and improved drainage systems and a raised median and landscaping in the areas where work is taking place.

Drivers will also not be permitted to make left turns in the area for about two weeks starting in June, IDOT said. Detours will be posted which will allow the installation of traffic signals and crossovers as Weber Road traffic begins to operate under the diverging diamond configuration, officials announced this week.

The project is expected to be completed this summer.

Drivers should expect to experience delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.
