Hazmat Team Responds To Romeoville Warehouse Fire
Crews were on the scene at Chemtech Services on Gaskin Drive for nearly three hours.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Lockport Township Fire Protection District and its hazmat team responded to a warehouse fire that created heavy black smoke Tuesday in Romeoville. Firefighters responded to Chemtech Services Inch, 20648 Gaskin Drive, at around 5:29 a.m. after workers reported a fire in the building.
The fire began in the processing area of the manufacturing facility's warehouse, officials said. The fire was contained to the warehouse but caused smoke damage throughout the entire building.
The blaze was upgraded to a full still alarm, bringing in mutual aid from other fire departments.

Due to processing chemicals in the facility, hazmat team members from the Lockport Township Fire Protection District and advisors from the Southwest Hazardous Materials Team were called in to identify potential hazards and assist with precautionary decontamination, officials said.
Firefighters and hazmat teams remained on the scene for nearly three hours monitoring the situation. Will County Emergency Management Agency officials notified the EPA to ensure proper cleanup, according to the fire district.
