The Illinois State Police is continuing to investigate the nature of the shooting, Summers said. Police officials said Tuesday that Walker was shot once by a Will County SWAT team officer and died later. The shooting took place after he went into the Fifth Third Bank on South Weber Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police said Tuesday that Walker initially had hostages in the bank and demanded that the police be called to the bank. Once officers arrived, however, he allowed the hostages to leave without injury and remained inside the bank. Witnesses told police that Walker had fired the gun multiple times inside the bank, but police have not said what led to the SWAT team officer firing at him. Police said it appears that Walker was not there to rob the bank, but have not offered details about his motive for being there with a gun.
