Romeoville Celebrates Its 130th Birthday

On Jan. 19, 1895, residents of Romeo gathered at John Miller's Barber Shop to decide if Romeo should incorporate and change its name.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — The Village of Romeoville celebrated its 130th birthday on Jan. 19, the Village shared in a Facebook post.

On Jan. 19, 1895, residents of Romeo gathered at John Miller's Barber Shop to decide if Romeo should incorporate and change its name to Romeoville.

"By a vote of 42 to 20, we incorporated and became the Village of Romeoville. Happy 130th birthday," the Village said.

Nearly a month later, on Feb. 16, Louis Hamann was elected the first President of the Romeoville Board of Trustees, and the first Village Hall was also built in 1895, according to the Village website.
