ROMEOVILLE, IL — For the first time in school history, the Romeoville High School boys soccer team took home a second place finish in the Class 3A state final tournament.
This is the highest finish for a Romeoville sports team in the history of the school, Coach Nick Cirrincione said. The team also won its first sectional and super sectional title this season.
Cirrincione said he is proud to be a teacher and coach at Romeoville High School, and added that "the amount of support from the staff, students, administration, school board, mayor [and] community was first class."

In the state championship game, Romeoville lost 0-1 to Naperville Central.
"The match was a great battle. We wanted to defend and try and win 1-0 or take the match to overtime and try and win in penalty kicks, but we fell short of the goal," Cirrincione said.

Cirrincione said the team's goal was to break every record on the record board, which they did.
"We ended up with 28 wins, 133 goals, and 122 assists, all which will go down as top 10 teams in the history of Illinois for soccer," Cirrincione said. The team also had two all-state players in Joseph Duarte and Lucas Ortiz.
"This team had big goals and accomplished almost all of them, which as a coach I couldn’t be prouder of," Cirrincione said.
