Shuttered Romeoville Car Dealership To Transform To Retail Space

The 6,825 square foot location offers space for five storefront businesses that, once approved, could be opened by the spring of 2023.

Five storefront retail locations could take over what is now a shuttered car dealership on Independence. Development on the space could begin as early as this summer.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — What is now a shuttered car dealership on Route 53 could, within the next year, be a thriving retail space for new businesses after the Romeoville Planning and Zoning Committee reviewed initial plans this week.

The space includes 6,825 square feet of retail store space that is designed to include a drive-thru at one end of the building. The space, located at 639 N. Independence, is situated just south of Greenwood Avenue.

If approved, site work is expected to work this summer and local officials are targeting the spring of 2023 as a potential opening date for the retail space. Village officials said that the developer will be working on identifying potential tenants for the storefront spaces once the process is finalized.
