Romeoville Target Store Closing In February
The national retail chain is shuttering 12 underperforming locations across the country, including its Matteson store.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Target is shutting down 12 of its underperforming stores, including locations in Romeoville and Matteson, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. Officials for the national retail chain began telling affected employees about the closings Monday. The final day for the soon-to-be-closed locations will be Feb. 3, the report added.
A company spokeswoman told the Star-Tribune that "a really rigorous process" is used to determine which locations are closed or moved. In general, though, Target stores that rack up several years of declining profability are the ones that are shuttered, she added.
The Romeoville location is at 349 S Weber Road in the Shops of Romeoville plaza. The Matteson store is at 4647 Promenade Way, near the abandoned Lincoln Mall, which was shut down in 2014.

In its previous fiscal year, Target shut down five stores, and the retailer closed 13 stores the year before that. Other stores to be shut down included locations in Benton Harbor, Michigan; Harper Woods, Michigan; and Hutchinson, Kansas.
The closings come on the heels of the company announcing that it was opening a dozen small-format stores, including locations in Skokie, Oak Park and Chicago's Lake View neighborhood. By the end of the year, Target will have opened 32 new stores, with 35 locations set to open in 2018.
