Valley View Wrestlers Earn State Championship, Second Place Medal
The IESA wrestling championships were held on March 8.
ROMEOVILLE, IL — Two Valley View School District wrestlers had quite a successful run at the IESA wrestling championships on March 8.
The District said Lukancic Middle School eighth grader Jonathan Rivera is a state champion in the Class AA 215-pound class.
Jane Addams Middle School eighth grader Arik Thompson earned a second-place state medal in the Class A 275-pound class.

The District sent a fairly large contingent to the state championships. Jane Addams Middle School had two eighth grade students, Troy Houston and Thompson, who qualified in the 275-pound class in the Class A Championships.
The other seven VVSD qualifiers competed in the Class AA Championships, according to the District. Those students were: Brooks Middle School sixth grade student DeShaun Wilder in the 95-pound class, seventh grade student DeAndre Wilder in the 112-pound class, and eighth grade students Alex Aparicio in the 119-pound class and Jay Wu in the 215-pound class. Representing Lukancic Middle School were eighth grade students Luis Gonzalez in the 185-pound class and Rivera in the 215-pound class. And, Humphrey Middle School seventh grade student Dominic Budzyk competed in the 85-pound class.

According to IESA, Homer Glen's Homer Junior High team won the Class AA championship; and Gibson City's team won the Class A championship.
