What's That Smoke? O'Hara Woods Prescribed Burn Happening Monday

The burn is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at O'Hara Woods, 524 Belmont Drive​ in Romeoville.

ROMEOVILLE, IL — Residents took to social media on Monday to ask about smoke that could be spotted in the sky around 11 a.m. The answer: a scheduled prescribed burn at O'Hara Woods.

The large smoke plume could be spotted from a couple miles away, causing concern of a fire at the nearby refinery. Village Administrator Dawn Caldwell confirmed to Patch on Monday that it was a prescribed burn at the nature preserve.

According to the Village website, the burn is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at O'Hara Woods, which is located at 524 Belmont Drive.
