We know, we know...the kids are out of school, there is yardwork to be done and summer outings are vying for your attention. And all this is happening while you still need to go to work five days a week and keep a handle on the regular housework. Summer is wonderful, but it can also be overwhelming. To keep your stress levels down in the summer or any time of the year, Patch has gathered the following suggestions.
- Stuck on a problem? Try to stop thinking. Presence Health in Joliet suggests you daydream, meditate or even nap: anything to get your mind off the situation. "When you let your mind wander, you activate the right hemisphere of the brain which can be better at making connections that aren't obvious," Presence Health shared on its Facebook page. "So, be a daydream believer. Even if you don't reach a solution, you'll be calmer and more clearheaded."
- Take a bath. But don't just use water. Adding Epsom salts can make it healthier. Epsom salts are actually magnesium sulfate, two minerals that are essential for your body. Add two cups of Epsom salt to the tub and soak for at least 10-15 minutes.
- Change your scenery. Go for a walk. Not only will the physical exercise improve your mood, but the fresh air and scenery might get your mind off your troubles too.
- Get moving. Get up and stretch. Or if you can, do a little dance. Try singing too. Moving is always a good option to shift your mood.
- Clean it up. Take a break and clean your desk. If you can't find the files you need, either on your desk or in your emails, you can waste lots of precious time and energy. Try organizing your files. Or rearrange the photos and other knickknacks.
