UPDATE: Jefferson, Cass Bridge Closings Canceled

IDOT needs to close each for one day in order to do survey and inspection work, officials said. But the closings have been canceled, at least temporarily.

If you use Jefferson Street to get to or through downtown Joliet or Cass Street to head to the West Side, this story is for you.

The Illinois Department of Transportation will be closing the Cass Street bridge over the Des Plaines River to do survey and inspection work. And it will be doing the same thing from on the Jefferson Street bridge.

But the bridge closings, originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, have been canceled, according to a Sun-Times News Group report. Both closings will be rescheduled.

There won't be any detour signs posted so the city is putting out the word now that drivers should plan ahead to use one of Joliet's other bridges over the Des Plaines.

For more information, call the city's Department of Public Works at 815-
