Drunken Joliet Woman Beat Son Who Would Not Let Her Drive, Then Called 911 On Cops: Police

The woman called 911 three times as the cops looked on, police said.

A drunken Joliet woman battered her son when he wouldn’t give up her car keys, then repeatedly called 911 in an ill-conceived attempt to force the cops from her home, police said.

Veronica Ortiz, 39, was highly intoxicated when she attacked her 19-year-old son early Sunday morning at her Abe Street home, police said. Ortiz reportedly wanted to go for a drive but her son refused to give her the keys to the car.

The cops showed up and Ortiz called 911 in hopes of making them leave, police said. When she did this a second time, officers reportedly warned her she would be arrested if she called again.

Ortiz, who was belligerent and profane, did just that, police said, making her third call to emergency dispatchers just five minutes after the first one.

Ortiz was charged with disorderly conduct and taken to the police station. She allegedly refused to cooperate when officers tried to process her and was subsequently charged with obstructing justice. She was then transported to the Will County jail.
