Horrendous Route 59 Crash Causes Road Closure: Police
Brook Forest Ave was closed as the Illinois State Police completed their on-scene portion of the investigation.

SHOREWOOD — Route 59 in Shorewood was closed for a few hours to motorists as a result of Wednesday morning's crash that sent people to the St. Joe's hospital.
According to police chief Phil Arnold, the Shorewood Police Department was called to the intersection of Brook Forest Avenue, better known as Route 59, and Sunrise Drive at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday regarding a collision involving injuries.
Officers found that two vehicles were involved in the collision, with three occupants between the two cars. The Troy Fire Protection District brought all three people to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital in Joliet, with one person in critical condition.

Initial investigation reveals that one of the vehicles was travelling eastbound on Sunrise Drive and had crossed the southbound lanes of Route 59 and proceeded into the northbound lanes when it was struck by a vehicle that was travelling northbound, police said.
Due to the severity of the injuries sustained by the driver of the eastbound vehicle, the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit was called to investigate. Brook Forest Ave remained closed until ISP completed its on-scene portion of the investigation.

Shorewood police notified Patch that Route 59 was reopened to traffic as of 1:45 p.m.
