On Friday, people across the area notified Patch that the Shorewood 7-Eleven convenient store was no longer open, making them sad.

SHOREWOOD — In recent months, there have been a number of 7-Eleven stores that closed for good including the one in Joliet at the corner of Larkin Avenue and McDonough Street. Nothing has replaced the empty 7-Eleven store in Joliet that closed in October.

Now, the question on people's minds is whether Shorewood has also lost its 7-Eleven store, the one at the super busy intersection of Route 59 and Route 52.

As the above photo showed, the entire building has been boarded up and nobody was inside the property on Friday.

However, a phone call placed to the village of Shorewood's director of economic development Natalie Engel provided some positive news on the horizon for the 7-Eleven faithful.

In a voicemail message left with Patch's editor, Engel indicated she has not personally had any conversations with the ownership of 7-Eleven, but it was her understanding that the Shorewood 7-Eleven was now becoming a corporate store, and the store were being closed for a few days to take stock of inventory and do other things related to the ownerhip change.

"So, we're hoping they'll be reopening at the end of next week," Engel remarked.
