SHOREWOOD — The owners of Shorewood's Mad Hatchet Brewery, which is located at 913 Brook Forest Avenue in the secluded strip mall along the west side of Route 59, announced on Monday they are putting their craft brewery business up for sale.

As part of their Facebook announcement shared on Monday morning, the husband and wife owners of Mad Hatchet reminded everyone that "Mad Hatchet started as a garage hobby 17 years ago, and has been our #1 full-time side hobby for the past 5 years.

"Earlier this month, we had a fantastic 'meeting' with our staff to talk over our future plans, ending in an epic game of Thunderstruck. Their support means EVERYTHING to us. We are here to announce that we plan to put the brewery up for sale and focus on our 4 amazing children, our full-time jobs, and our many, many side hobbies & passions."

Several customers and staff posted comments reacting to Monday's news, and one person wanted everyone to know that he hopes someone will emerge to keep Mad Hatching around.

"I hope MH continues on. It would be a loss for the community if it closed forever. You and your team are some amazing people and we love what you created. It’s something special. But….family comes first, for sure," commented Brett.
