5th Teen Arrested for Murder, Attempted Murder of Skokie 17 Year Olds

The fifth suspect, a 17-year-old, is suspected of being the gunman who killed Maxwell Gadau and left his friend hospitalized.

A 17-year-old Chicago high school student was arrested Monday and is believed to be the gunman in the robbery that turned deadly in Skokie last month, leaving a 17-year-old boy dead and 17-year-old girl hospitalized, according to the an article in TribLocal.

Max Gadau, a Niles North varsity swimmer, was shot and killed Sept. 28 while in a car with his friend, who was shot in the face and is in the hospital. Sunday, four 19-year-olds were arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. Two of those charged, Dzevad Avdic and Myles Hughes, are Niles North grads, according to ABC Chicago. Gadau’s mom said her son was friends with the two, one of whom was on the swim team with Max.

Prosecutors said the five planned to rob the girl after setting up a deal to buy marijuana from her, the TribLocal article says. She asked Gadau to accompany her during the deal, which took place in her car, for moral support. When the girl resisted turning over the marijuana, the 17-year-old shot both her and Gadau, prosecutors say.
