Coronavirus: Skokie School District Donates Protective Equipment

The Niles Township High School District 219 donated $6,800 in personal protective equipment to local villages.

SKOKIE, IL — The Niles Township High School District 219 donated roughly $6,800 in personal protective equipment to the villages of Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles and Skokie to aid in the fight against the coronavirus. This includes 11,700 nitrile gloves, one case of disinfectant wipes, 864 18-once bottles of hand sanitizer, 280 pairs of goggles, four apparel kits, two face shields and an N95 mask.

"We have become aware that, in the face of the spread of COVID-19 in our community, the first responders (including police officers, firefighters and paramedics) of the four municipalities we serve are in need of personal protective equipment, due to worldwide equipment shortages," D-219 spokesman Jim Szczepaniak said in a memo to the board.

Therefore, equipment that was not needed for the current academic year, which was normally used by the district's science departments and buildings and grounds, was donated to the villages proportionately based on student population size and overall need. The D-219 school board voted to approve this donation at its April 14 meeting.
