Elderly Woman Hospitalized After Fire Breaks Out At Skokie Condo: Report

A fire broke out at a Skokie condo building Monday night, hospitalizing an 84-year-old woman.

SKOKIE, IL — An 84-year-old woman was injured in a fire that broke out in a condo building in Skokie Monday night.

According to CBS News Chicago, the Skokie Fire Department responded to the fire at 9529 Bronx Ave. at 10:08 p.m. The building is part of the Barcelona condo community that is located just south of the Westfield Old Orchard shopping center.

According to fire crews, they arrived to smokey conditions on the third floor of one of the four buildings. The fire department called for assistance and several neighboring fire departments responded.

The fire was under control within 20 minutes, and it stayed on the third floor of the one building.

Paramedics transported an 84-year-old resident to a nearby hospital in serious condition, the fire department said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
