• Skokie To Appoint New Corporation Counsel (patch.com) — Village leaders in Skokie are set to appoint attorney Steve Elrod and his firm Elrod Friedman LLP as the new Corporation Counsel, following the retirement of longtime counsel Michael Lorge. After reviewing dozens of applicants, a village committee and top officials concluded Elrod’s extensive municipal law experience and recent work as special counsel make him the best fit to represent Skokie starting January 1, 2026.
   

• Durbin Condemns Antisemitic Attack at Bondi Beach as Hanukkah Begins, Violent Shooting at Brown University (collinsvilledailynews.com) — U.S. Senator Dick Durbin highlighted Skokie’s Holocaust Museum on the Senate floor as a powerful reminder of tolerance while condemning recent antisemitic and gun violence attacks abroad and at Brown University. His remarks connect Skokie’s role in Holocaust education to a broader call for confronting antisemitism and choosing love over hate nationwide.
   

• The Government Unconstitutionally Labels ICE Observers as Domestic Terrorists (cato.org) — Skokie is one of several Chicago-area suburbs where Border Patrol agents have reportedly threatened to arrest residents who follow and record immigration enforcement operations, warning them they are “impeding” federal officers. The piece argues this is part of a broader national policy that treats such observers as potential “domestic terrorists,” and urges Congress to protect First Amendment rights to document law enforcement activity.
