Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie Is Temporarily Closing

The Illinois Holocaust Museum is gearing up to close for the rest of the year while the facility undergoes extensive renovations.

SKOKIE, IL — The Illinois Holocaust Museum will be temporarily closed for the rest of the year while the facility undergoes extensive upgrades.

The museum, at 9603 Woods Dr. in Skokie, closed all its exhibitions Monday in preparation for its complete closure on July 1. Until then, the museum will remain open for public programs and training sessions by reservation.

While the Skokie location is closed, the museum will open a downtown satellite location in Chicago, featuring some of its most popular exhibitions at the former site of the Broadcast Museum in River North.

During the closure, the Skokie museum will undergo renovations to modernize the structure and create a new lobby designed to hold more guests. Additional upgrades will include:

  • a new visitor welcome center;
  • a redesigned state-of-the-art auditorium;
  • and a reflection space within the Karkomi Holocaust exhibition.

The main museum is projected to partially reopen in early 2026 and celebrate its grand reopening in the summer of next year.
