Niles Township Community High Schools Among Best Public Districts In U.S.

SKOKIE, IL — A Skokie school district is among the best public high school districts in the nation, according to a new Niche ranking.

According to the 2026 Best School Districts in America list recently released by the education ranking service Niche, Niles Township Community High School District 219 is one of the best public school district in the Chicago-Metro area.

The district ranked 33rd in the country overall and sixth in the state with A+ rankings in academics, teachers, college prep, and clubs and activities. Its diversity score got an A grade and its administration got an A-.

The district has 4,630 students enrolled in grades 9-12 with a student to teacher ratio of 13 to 1. According to state test scores, 37 percent of students are proficient in math and reading.

"One thing I like is how many of the teachers genuinely care about us and check up on us. I've had amazing relationships with my teachers who have helped me and encouraged me through my school journey," one student said.

Niche said its rankings, now in the 11th year, differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.
