EVANSTON, IL — NorthShore University HealthSystem was ranked as as the fourth-best hospital in state in U.S. News & World Reports' 2022 "Best Hospitals" rankings, rising two spots from its position on last year's rankings.

NorthShore's overall hospital ranking is based on data from NorthShore Evanston, Glenbrook, Highland Park and Skokie hospitals, according to U.S. News, which released the 33rd version of the annual rankings Tuesday.

The rankings compare more than 4,500 hospitals across the country — head-to-head for overall scores, as well as in 15 specialties and procedures and conditions.

Dr. Jason Koh, the director of the institute, said the staff was honored to again receive the national recognition.

“Our orthopaedic experts are world-leading surgeons, researchers, and specialists working with an exceptional dedicated team of anesthesiologists, nurses, assistants," Koh said in a statement. "We look forward to continuing our mission to develop and deliver the best possible care to restore our patients to pain-free mobility.”

Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, which NorthShore acquired last year, was ranked No. 46 in the nation in the urology specialty.

This year's rankings are the first to include data from after the emergence of the COVID-19 virus.

To adjust its methodology to take into account the effects of the pandemic, the rankings excluded any hospital visits in March 2020, as well as any visits when a patient is diagnosed with COVID-19.

The rankings also exclude any visits to the hospital from a month in 2020 where the hospital's coronavirus rate was above the national average.
