School Calendar For 2024-25 In All Skokie Districts: Key Dates To Know

SKOKIE, IL — Back-to-school planning is already underway in Skokie, with calendars now available to help parents prepare for the first day of classes.

In Skokie, there are nine public elementary school districts that feed into a single high school district — that makes for 10 superintendents, administrative teams, school boards.

But they do not all follow the same calendar.

Some take school off for Rosh Hashanah or Eid al-Fitr, some do not.

Some still call Oct. 14 Columbus Day, while others call it Indigenous People's Day — in line with the state law that swapped them in 2021.

Most districts begin school later this month, although District 71 does not get going until early September.

Census data shows districts with fewer than 3,000 students end up spending 16.6 more on each student than the national average, according Education Commission on the States.

And with two high schools, District 219 is by far the largest in Skokie, but it still has an enrollment of fewer than 4,600 students.

In addition to annual federal holidays, here are some of the non-attendance days to get on the calendar ahead of the start of the 2024-25 school year in Niles Township's 10 public school districts:
