Skokie Phasing Out 10 Gas-Powered Cars To Replace With EVs
The Village of Skokie will soon replace 10 aging gas-powered vehicles with electric vehicles over the next year.
SKOKIE, IL — Over the next year, Skokie will start to phase out 10 aging, gas-powered vehicles and replace them with electric vehicles.
The village started the process recently, adding 13 new Level 2 electric vehicle charging ports at Village Hall to support its expanding fleet of electric cars. These added charging ports will increase Skokie's charging capacity by more than 50 percent.
The project was completed in partnership with ComEd through its Beneficial Electrification Make-Ready Rebate program. The program incentivizes the expansion of electric vehicle charging to bring greater access to zero-emissions vehicles in northern Illinois.

ComEd launched the program in February 2024, and the rebates provide up to $8,000 per Level 2 charger installed.
“Working with our partners in northern Illinois, ComEd is committed to helping customers benefit from zero emissions vehicles, which can significantly reduce pollution and enhance air quality for all residents across our communities,” said Erica Borggren, ComEd Vice President of Customer Solutions.

For residents with electric vehicles, Skokie also offers four public electric vehicle charging stations, including:
- two at Village Hall - 5201 Oakton St.
- Downtown - 4830 Oakton St.
