Skokie Launches Pilot Program Offering Lyft Rides To Registered Seniors

The program is active through the end of the year — unless funding runs out earlier.

SKOKIE, IL — A pilot program will provide Skokie senior citizens with access to free transportation for the final two months of the year, village staff announced.

The new Seniors Matter Program will provide complimentary Lyft rides to registered residents aged 65 and over who are able to enter and exit vehicles without assistance.

Seniors will be provided scheduled rides to grocery stores, pharmacies and medical appointments within village boundaries.

Funding is provided by the SafeLIGHT Foundation and AARP, according to village staff, but registration is limited.

Staff said the program is due to run until the end of the year, or until its funding runs out.
