Gov. Pritzker Outbid By First Lady For Champion Steer At State Fair

The first lady won with a top bid of $105,000 for the steer named King at the Illinois State Fair Ag Day Sale of Champions.

SPRINGFIELD, IL — Gov. JB Pritzker was outbid for the grand champion steer at Tuesday’s Sale of Champions at the Illinois State Fair after he ended up in a bidding war with his wife, First Lady MK Pritzker, for the third year in a row.

The first lady won with a top bid of $105,000 for the steer named King at the marquee event of the Illinois State Fair Ag Day. The Sale of Champions showcases the efforts of youth in agriculture.

“These accomplished young exhibitors represent the future of our state’s No. 1 industry,” the governor said at the sale, which was live-streamed on Facebook.

The grand champion steer was exhibited by Ashtin Guyer of downstate Robinson and will be donated to the Central Illinois Foodbank. Grand champion and reserve grand champion exhibitors receive a portion of the proceeds from the animal sale to be used for college or other projects. Additionally, CME Group donated $50,000 in scholarships.
