Driver Killed After Car, Semi Collide In Tinley Park

UPDATE: Icy road conditions also caused a series of accidents along Interstate 80 near the village.

TINLEY PARK, IL — One person was killed after a car and semitractor trailer collided Wednesday morning near 175th Street and LaGrange Road, according to Tinley Park officials. Icy road conditions also caused a string of accidents along Interstate 80 near the village.

Tinley Park police responded to the fatal crash at around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24. The semi was traveling south on LaGrange when it jumped the median and slammed in to the car in the northbound lane, police said.

The driver of the truck wasn't hurt in the crash, and there were no passengers in the car. The victim's name has not been released while family is being notified, police said.

Road conditions were icy at the time of the crash, according to police.

Around 20 cars also were involved in accidents along eastbound I-80, near Harlem Avenue, on Tuesday morning, NBC 5 Chicago reports. Vehicles skidded into ditches, and Illinois State Police shut down the westbound lanes of the interstate to allow salt trucks to prep the pavement, the report added.
