Accused Drunken Driver: 'There's a lot of People More Drunk Than me,' and More From Tinley Police

Tinley Park police reports, Jan. 5, 18, 21, 22 and 30, as well as Feb. 1.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 1

Warrant Arrest 

Michael P. Magro, 22, of the 26100 block of Lauren Drive in Channahon was arrested around 5:15 p.m. at the Channahon Police Department on a warrant out of the for battery. His bail was set at $5,000. 

Abandoned Vehicle

Police towed a 2002 Ford Taurus around 10:15 a.m. from the 7700 block of West 177th Place in where it was left in an "unmovable condition," according to the report. It was there for 11 days, cops said. Two ordinance violations were left on the car, one for an abandoned vehicle and one for a hazardous vehicle.

MONDAY, JAN. 30

Missing Handicapped Placard 

A 72-year-old local woman reported that sometime between 1:45 p.m. Jan. 24 and 2 p.m. Jan. 30 someone may have taken her handicapped placard from the visor in her vehicle. The woman said she always locks her car, parks it in the garage and never removes the placard.

SUNDAY, JAN. 22 

'There's a lot of People More Drunk Than me'

Laura M. Ramirez, 43, of the 6100 block of South Kilbourn Avenue in Chicago, was arrested around 1:55 a.m. near the 7600 block of 159th Street in Tinley Park and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane use.

Police said they first began following Ramirez after they saw her crossing over the solid white line in the roadway. She then turned into Park Center Drive, the entrance to a shopping mall which was closed. Ramirez reportedly told police that she pulled into the shopping center "because she had to pee."

She then failed field sobriety tests, according to the report, and was arrested. She admitted to having four or five beers but told police she was "only driving home," and "didn't hurt anyone," police said.

"It should be noted that Laura made the following unsolicited statement during transport, 'There's a lot of people more drunk than me passing me up and you had to stop me,'" the report said. " … I could again detect a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Laura's breath as she voluntarily spoke from the rear of my patrol car." Her bail was set at $1,000.

SATURDAY, JAN. 21

Resisting a Peace Officer

Nicholas A. Pirsein, 19, of the 19400 block of Edgebrook Lane in Tinley Park, was arrested around 8:15 a.m. in the 17700 block of Oak Park Avenue on a warrant out of the Oak Forest Police Department. He was charged with resisting a peace officer and his bail was set at $2,500.

WEDNESDAY, JAN. 18

Obstructing Justice

Edward L. Ward, 42, of the 7600 block of West Glenshire Drive in Frankfort, was arrested around 10:10 a.m. at the and charged with obstructing justice and driving with a revoked license. His bail was set at $40,000. 

THURSDAY, JAN. 5 

Amazon.com Fraud

Between Dec. 28 and Jan. 5, someone racked up $1,300 using a local man's credit card on Amazon.com without his permission. The company's representatives told the man he was responsible for all charges and that the merchandise had been shipped to an unknown address.
