Attempted Armed Robbery Outside Jewel Leads To 3 Arrests: Tinley PD

Police said they were able to track down the suspects' vehicle using license plate readers.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park police said three people are in custody after license plate readers were used to track down the suspects in an attempted armed robbery Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the incident happened around 2:10 p.m. in the parking lot of the Jewel-Osco store at Harlem Avenue and 171st Street.

Police didn't give details of the robbery attempted but said, "through the course of the initial investigation the license plate of the offending vehicle was obtained through our LPR system. The offending vehicle was located a short time later by Tinley Park detectives and a traffic stop was conducted."

Three people were taken into custody, according to police, who said the investigation is ongoing.
