Books For Beer: Brewery Offers Half Off For Kids Book Donations
From now until Dec. 31, patrons can bring gently used books to the Open Bottle taproom to get a coupon for 50 percent off of any draft beer.
TINLEY PARK, IL — Beers, books, benevolence. The Open Bottle is teaming up with Bernie's Book Bank to collect book donations for children across the Chicagoland area, and they're giving an interesting incentive for turning in your paperbacks.
The brewery and taproom in Tinley Park will give one 50 percent off coupon for a homemade draft beer to anyone who donates gently used books to the drive during the month of December. The coupon can only be redeemed in January, but workers at the craft brewery told Patch that will be just in time to try holiday classics and new brews.
Currently, the brewery, which has taprooms in Lockport and Tinley Park, has 12 rotating beers on draft that range from lagers to seltzers, sour to spiced. Bringing in a single book could save brewerygoers up to $10 on the more expensive selections.

According to Bernie's Book Bank officials, books must be geared towards children under 13 years old, with reading levels ranging from newborn to 6th grade. They also have to be in fair condition, as the company commits to giving "free quality children's books to increase book ownership among under-served children throughout Chicagoland."
Books can be brought to either Open Bottle location until Dec. 31.
