Bring Your Irish Pride to Oak Park Avenue

It's almost time for the Oak Park Avenue celebration some wait all year for.
Less than a week in advance of St. Patrick's Day, the steps off this Sunday and will feature entertainment from more than 80 local groups and organizations, coordinators have said.
Grand Marshal Ben Bradley, a reporter from ABC7 News, will lead the soiree which begins at and ends at 172nd Street.

"The parade will also feature local Irish dance groups and two pipe and drum bands—the Chicago Highlanders, the nation's oldest continuous pipe and drum corps, and the Band of Brothers, entirely comprised of active and retired firefighters from Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana," a notice from the village says.
Drivers headed to the parade must remember that Oak Park Avenue will be closed for two hours starting at 1:30 p.m. Motorists will not be able to drive from 183rd to 171st streets, coordinators said.

Though open alcohol is not allowed along the parade route, many bars will be featuring specials that day.
