TINLEY PARK, IL — Applications are now being accepted for the next class of the Tinley Park Citizens Police Academy.

Applications are available at the police department, 7850 W. 183rd St. The academy is a 12-week program designed to give residents a working knowledge of law enforcement and the Tinley Park Police Department.

The academy will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursdays from Jan. 8 to March 26.

The goal of the academy is to provide citizens with an opportunity to understand how the police department serves the community. Students will learn the reasoning behind specific decisions made by law enforcement and the impact those decisions have on the community. The Tinley Park Police Department believes it is essential for the public to have confidence, trust, and faith in the ability of its officers to carry out their duties effectively.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old and reside or work within Tinley Park. All applicants will undergo a background check. The program is offered free and is limited to 30 students per session.
