Fatal Shooting Outside Bar Was Over Parking: Glenwood PD

A Tinley Park man, 31, was shot and killed in an act of self-defense during a confrontation over parking, police said.

GLENWOOD, IL — A fatal shooting outside a Glenwood bar Feb. 23 was an act of self-defense, Glenwood police said Friday. No charges will be filed.

The shooting happened outside Chug A Lug at 184th and Halsted around 1:30 a.m. that day. James Honey, 31, of Tinley Park, was shot and killed in the incident police now say was a dispute over parking.

An investigation into the shooting included "many hours of video surveillance from the incident scene and beyond, witness interviews, search warrants, forensic crime scene processing, evidence obtained from the medical examiner, and other investigative efforts."

Findings were presented to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, which declined to press charges.

Police said the investigation determined that the confrontation between the parties was the result of a dispute over parking, Glenwood police said. The parties did not know each other, nor was there any conflict between them prior to the incident, police said.

A gun owned by Honey was found at the scene. The weapon fired at him was legally owned by a concealed carry license holder, and was turned over to Glenwood police.

The investigation is closed, said Glenwood Police Chief Derek Peddycord.
