TINLEY PARK, IL — Erik Pizer and his team at Flipside Brewing in Tinley Park are ready to celebrate three years of beers, community—and smashburgers.

Pizer has planned an anniversary party for the brewery, set for Saturday, July 26. Pizer opened the brewery at 7144 183rd St. in July 2022, marking his return to the space where he brewed when it was once 350 Brewing.

He'll mark the occasion with a customized food menu, a 'birthday beer debut,' a balloon artist, and face painting. The celebration follows up Flipside's first appearance at Tinley Park's Block Party.

“I think it’s been great that after three years now, we are becoming part of the community more," Pizer said. "We're a stop on the Tinley Ale Trail, we get good foot traffic before concerts at Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre. It’s been great to get out and see the neighborhood a little bit more, have a few more people come visit us from the area."

In its first years, Flipside has thrived. With efforts to keep things fresh—burgers of the month, an evolving food menu, and new beers released regularly—Pizer has gained many fans.

"We’ve made our mark as being a go to spot for smashburgers," Pizer said. "Between our classic Flipside smashburger and our rotating Burger of the Month, we really focus on making them something special."

Flipside has also become known as a haven for the artistic and independent artists, regularly hosting artisan markets through the Streetz Artz Alliance.

"We’re such a small space that they’re each super-unique and always a great time," Pizer said. "We don’t have a ton of space to do some events like our neighboring breweries can, so it’s been an awesome way to still participate with that part of the community in the area."

The party on Saturday goes all day from 11 a..m. to 11 p.m., and will feature Double Stop—a double IPA version of its popular flagship IPA, Pizer said.

"Twice as much hops," Pizer said. “It’s a big boy, but it’s just more of the great hop flavors and aroma. Grapefruit, boozy, pine. Nice, classic American double IPA. Kinda old school."

Other beers unique to the day include a blueberry lemon radler and a grapefruit version of Double Stop.

A special food menu will include the HogFather burger of the month: single smash patty, BBQ pulled pork, crispy Duroc pork belly, bacon, white cheddar, pickles, and crispy onion strings. Don't miss the appetizers like fish tacos and wings—special sweet chili honey mustard wing sauce. Also special to the menu is a blackened chicken sandwich.

At 3 p.m., Pizer will tap a cask of Maple Pecan Haunted Past Mild.

"A couple of other surprises throughout the day, too," Pizer said.

He's excited to celebrate with the community and customers who have supported his dream.

"It’s been going great," Pizer said. We’re looking forward to continuing in the future."
