Funeral Services Set For Longtime Andrew Biology Teacher

Lloyd Eichwald died unexpectedly over the weekend, according to the school. Visitation and a Mass are scheduled for later this week.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for later this week for a beloved and respected Andrew High School science teacher. Lloyd Eichwald, a longtime biology teacher at the Tinley Park high school, died unexpectedly over the weekend, Andrew officials announced Sunday in a letter to parents. The cause of death was not given, but Eichwald "was not ill nor had any health conditions," Principal Bob Nolting wrote in his message.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Lawn Funeral Home, 17909 S. 94th Ave., Tinley Park, according to the funeral home. A funeral service will begin at 9 a.m. Friday, May 11, from the funeral home to St. Jude's Catholic Church, 241 W. 2nd Ave., New Lenox, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 6001 W. 111th St., Alsip, the funeral home said.

Eichwald is survived by his wife, Nancy, and two daughters — Shannon and Lindsey — and a son, Erich. He also is survived by two sisters, Sandra Schumaker and Audrey Eichwald.

"For those who knew Mr. Eichwald knew a teacher who was passionate about his subject, but more passionate about the connections," Nolting wrote in his message Sunday. "He was beloved by students and respected by colleagues."
