Highway Department Program Collects Clothing For Those In Need

ORLAND TOWNSHIP, IL — Don't use it? Don't wear it? Don't like it? They'll take it. The Orland Township Highway Department recently partnered with RewearAble to collect unused and unworn clothing from Orland Township residents.

RewearAble is a clothing recycling program committed to helping people with developmental disabilities pursue enviable lives through sustainable employment. The employees at RewearAble conduct the in-house sorting, ensuring everything that is collected is prepared for reuse and repurposing, according to the highway department.

"I am honored to partner with RewearAble recycling program and encourage residents to drop off unused and unworn clothes to the Highway Department," Highway Commissioner Antonio Rubino said. "As a community, we should all come together to help those in need."

From the initial pickup, sorting and packing of materials, people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities perform the tasks. Once clothes are collected and sorted, RewearAble donates them to local families in need, children’s centers and people looking for employment.
