Illinois Village Officials Pass Pro-Santa Resolution

The resolution, 2018-R-106, officially allows Santa Claus to land on roofs in the village, but requires the driver to be a "jolly old elf."

TINLEY PARK, IL — Santa Claus is officially allowed to land on Tinley Park rooftops, according to a recent resolution signed by village officials. The resolution was signed by the village president and clerk, allowing ol' St. Nick to make all the disturbances he pleases on Tinley Park's rooftops. The resolution was passed Tuesday, Dec. 18.

"THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED," Resolution 2018-R-106 says, "that the Village Board of Tinley Park...provide Santa Claus with all approvals necessary, in whatever order required, to land at the homes as of ten as he deems appropriate, on Monday evening, December 24, 2018, and Tuesday morning, December 25, 2018."

They list a few requirements, however. The resolution requires that "any miniature sleigh with eight (8) tiny reindeer shall designate the first reindeer to respond to landing signals with his blinking red nose ..."

If you thought that was it, you'd be wrong. Said sleigh "shall be full of toys and will not exceed the air travel weight load limit" and "the driver shall be a jolly old elf of outstanding character and shall have in his possession a good flying record."

The resolution even goes as far as to require public agencies to assist Santa. "The Police Department, the Public Works Department, and other Municipal Agencies shall provide speedy and helpful assistance to guarantee St. Nick's movement throughout the World," the resolution says.
