Illinois Primary Election: Results For 38th District, Other Races
Debbie Meyers-Martin is the projected Democratic nominee to fill outgoing state Rep. Al Riley's seat.

The highly contested Illinois governor's race might have drawn many voters across the south suburbs and the state to the polls Tuesday. But the midterm election also have its share of compelling county and local contests.
In the Democratic primary for Cook County assessor, incumbent Jose Berrios had been in a political street fight for his job and control of his party in that county as contenders Fritz Kaegi and Andrea Raila have worked to unseat him. Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle also faced a challenge to her incumbency from former 2nd Ward Chicago alderman Bob Fioretti.
One Democratic lawmaker who decided against holding on to his elected office was Al Riley, the outgoing Illinois state representative for the 38th House District from Olympia Fields. Five candidates were vying for the post, which represents parts of Tinley Park and Oak Forest: David Bonner (Matteson); Debbie Meyers-Martin (Olympia Fields); Cecil Matthews Jr. (Matteson); and Max Solomon (Hazel Crest).
