Inaugural Holiday House Decorating Contest Comes To Tinley

TINLEY PARK, IL — The Village of Tinley Park is asking residents to help light up the town by participating in the village’s inaugural Holiday House Decorating Contest.

The deadline to submit an entry form is Sunday, Dec. 6. Judging will take place from Dec. 7 to 10, and winners will be announced Dec. 11. Lights, music, animations and decorations must be activated during judging, which will take place at dusk, according to the village.

Houses will be judged in three categories: Best Use of Music, Best Animations and Best Overall Theme.

Winners in each category will receive a $100 gift card to the Tinley Park business of their choice, according to the village. All addresses will be shared on a map so residents can drive around and see the homes.

For residents interested, enter your home into the contest by filling out this form and attaching a photo of your house. Contestants have the option to submit a five-second video of their home’s decorations in action by texting it to (708) 927-5232 with their name and address, according to the village.

The contest is a kick-off for Tinley Park that many residents get will get very competitive with. Tinley resident Dominic Kowalczyk creates a "Winter Wonderland" in front of his home every year and has been featured on The Great Chicago Light Fight.

Kowalczyk's home is a popular one to visit during the holiday season. There are several spots along the display that the family typically places donation boxes for charity.
