Police Arrest 19-Year-Old in Connection With a Lead Pipe Attack

Tinley Park police charged a man with battery, accusing him of hitting another man with a pipe.

arrested a 19-year-old this week who they believe is connected to a local attack in which two people used a lead pipe to hit a 22-year-old man.

Alexander C. Garcia, 19, of the 18000 block of 66th Avenue in , was arrested around 4 p.m. Tuesday and charged with battery causing bodily harm. The cops were notified by an emergency room nurse at around 4:30 a.m., who said she was treating a man who had been struck in the head with a pipe.

The victim had two 1-inch lacerations in his head, according to the report, and needed staples. His mother said he came home around 3:30 a.m. "agitated and drunk" from a party down the street from their 66th Avenue home, police said. He stepped outside and she eventually followed, only to find him grunting in pain on the ground and bleeding from his head.

The victim said he didn't want help from police, according to the report, but that he did know the people who attacked him, saying they were wearing masks when they "jumped him" in front of his house and had been at the same party he was that evening.

The police report did not specify why only Garcia was charged, and Cmdr. Steve Vaccaro did not immediately return a voice mail seeking comment Thursday.

Officers said they photographed the scene of the attack where they found a dime-sized drop of blood on the concrete and matted down grass in the area the victim had reportedly been lying. They also collected blood samples.

Garcia's bail was set at $1,500, according to the report.
