Local Nonprofit Focuses On Essentials For Families This Winter

Kids Above All to host an online event to support community involvement and economic impact on the families in their care

TINLEY PARK, IL — Chicago-based nonprofit Kids Above All will host their annual fundraiser as a virtual event on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 6:45 p.m, according to the organization.

The Kids Above All Virtual Gala: A Night of Impact & Gratitude, is an opportunity for communities to stand up for the safety, health and well-being of the 2,448 kids and families in their programs, according to the organization.

Kids Above All said proceeds from the event will benefit the children and their families in their early learning program, foster care and adoption services. Housing programs for teens and formerly homeless young adults, and counseling services, provide:

  • Rental assistance for children living in poverty whose parents have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 to allow families to stay in their homes.
  • Utility assistance to ensure families and youth are able to stay warm and have electricity.
  • Access to technology for children, so they can e-learn, attend virtual counseling sessions and connect with family members.

To emcee the event, the organization has Johnny Rivers, a graduate of Kids Above All’s Emerge program which helps young adults experiencing homelessness to achieve financial independence through stable housing, education and career resources, and life skills training.

The organization said The Youth of the Year award will be given to Jamila Jenkins, a current Emerge program participant. Lucy Rider Meyer Humanitarian Awards will be presented to Landor Chicago, honoring their pro bono work on Kids Above All’s recent rebrand, as well as to Chicago-based Littelfuse, for their years of ongoing volunteer work that greatly impact the children and families in Kids Above All’s care, the organization said.

The event will include opportunities to make a direct impact on kids and families in and around Chicago, as well as a silent auction and raffle.

According to the organization, they were established in 1894. Kids Above All has long been a trusted community resource for children, families and young adults in northern Illinois, the organization said.
