Man Swaps Keys, Takes Off With For-Sale Car
A sneaky customer may have made off with a car he said he was considering buying, according to police.

Employees at a local car shop suspect a man who looked at a car on Friday to be the culprit who stole it on Saturday.
The customer, described as thin, about 25 years old and having a pale complexion, dark hair and a goatee, initially entered Carey's Car Care, 17651 S. Oak Park Ave. in , around 4:30 p.m. Friday. He wore blue jeans and a grey hooded sweatshirt. He asked a salesman about a four-door, silver Pontiac G6 that he'd seen in the parking lot, according to the report.
"The salesman was busy at the moment so he just gave the (man) the keys so he could look at the vehicle," the report said. "When the salesman finished his work he approached the (man) to ask him if he would like to test drive the vehicle."

He said no, insisting he'd return with his wife. He then gave the keys back to the salesman, got in his own car and left. Around 9:30 a.m. the next day, the salesman noticed the Pontiac was no longer in the parking lot.
"The salesman immediately checked the keys noticing they were still in the office," the report said. "When he matched the keys with the backup set in the folder, he noticed they didn't match."

Police said employees believe the man switched the keys while he was looking at the car, the report said. The case remained under investigation Monday.
