Michael Mangin Steps Down From Tinley Park Board After A Year

The trustee announced his retirement Monday, effective immediately.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Trustee Michael Mangin is stepping down from the Tinley Park Village Board effective immediately, the village announced Monday afternoon. No reason was given in the announcement for why he was vacating his seat, but the village said it was "a retirement from the … [b]oard.

Mangin had only served on the board for about a year. He was appointed to fill the vacancy made by newly elected Mayor Jacob Vandenberg in May 2017.

"I appreciate the opportunity you have given me as your trustee over the last year, and [I] enjoyed my time interacting with staff and committees,” Mangin wrote in his resignation letter sent to Vandenberg. "Throughout my time here I realized how professional and hard-working the overall staff of the Village was, and I enjoyed being a part of the success. I am proud of the many accomplishments all of you have worked on daily to achieve."

Before his appointment as trustee, Mangin was vice president of Marquette Bank for 21 years, retiring from that position in March 2016. The 1980 Illinois Benedictine University grad also owned Oak Lawn Financial for 17 years before he sold it to Marquette Bank in the late 1990s.

After considering several candidates for the open seat last May, Vandenberg told the Daily Southtown that "we think we found the best fit" in Mangin. In a statement Monday, the mayor also thanked Mangin for his service and wished the best for him and his family.
