Money Snatched From Employee's Purse at Shades of Darkness

A theft suspect told police he doesn't need to steal money from anyone because he's a "gangster."

An employee at a local tanning salon asked police to question an Oak Lawn customer who she believes stole $600 from her purse while she was working.

The woman said she left the bag unattended behind the counter at Shades of Darkness, 16850 S. Oak Park Ave., in for about 5 minutes while she sanitized a tanning room around 3:20 p.m., the report said. When she returned, she found a regular customer "hovering" around the front desk. She soon noticed the cash stash missing from her wallet.

"(The suspect) questioned (the officer) on why someone would keep $600 in a purse," the report said. "(He) stated further that he did not need to take money from a purse because was a 'gangster.'"

Police asked the suspect to go to for fingerprinting and as of Friday around 5:40 p.m., he had yet to do so. As of Monday around 5 p.m., no arrests had been made in connection with the theft.
