New Lenox In Final Land Acquisition For Roundabout: Mayor

Mayor Tim Baldermann updated residents about the project late last week.

NEW LENOX, IL — The Village is in the final steps of acquiring land necessary to move forward with a roundabout at Cedar and Haven Roads in New Lenox, Mayor Tim Baldermann updated residents.

The roundabout—a much-debated and long-considered solution to the quirky, zig-zagging intersection—will be largely funded by outside sources, Baldermann said previously.

The project is expected to go out to bid in the spring, with construction starting in late spring 2024. The project should be completed in late 2024 or early 2025.

Early discussions of a roundabout at the location date back to at least 2012. As officials have explored the idea, the Village has estimated that approximately 12,300 vehicles per day travel through the intersection; by 2050, that number is projected to increase to 18,000. The intersection experiences heavy traffic, accidents and mobility issues for motorists and pedestrians, officials have said previously.

The Village for year has been acquiring necessary parcels to make way for the project.
