TINLEY PARK, IL — A home on Oak Park Avenue painted with symbols and written messages that have disturbed some neighbors is being painted over, Tinley Park officials announced.

The property, located at 17017 Oak Park Ave., was last sold in 2001, though the current occupant is unknown. Beginning last month, residents along the highly trafficked street started noticing garbage in the property's front yard and messages painted on the garage and front door.

One sentence, painted in black across the front of the home, reads "IL VA let me get r*ped for entertainment."

According to village officials, police conducted a wellness check on the person who lives at the property and were able to get in contact with the person's family.

"The Village is aware of the house along Oak Park Avenue and has taken the necessary steps to get the violation corrected," officials said in a written statement. "The Village follows a two step process for all violations which requires an initial notice to the property owner. If corrections are not completed, a citation is issued which requires the owner to appear in court."

Officials did not immediately respond to questions on which building maintenance code the property violated, though images of the home show toasters in the front yard and flaking, old paint, both of which are against Tinley Park building code.

After getting in touch with a family member, village officials told Patch the house will be painted over. As of Wednesday evening, a portion of the front of the home was painted black.
