Opening Date Set For Pete's Fresh Market In Tinley Park

TINLEY PARK, IL — The long-awaited opening of Tinley Park's new Pete's Fresh Market location is set, the company announced Tuesday.

The Pete's Fresh Market store at 16280 S. Harlem Ave. will open at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3. The grand opening features giveaways and a chance to win free groceries for a year.

The debut of the 88,608 square-foot store follows prolonged construction and development at the 24.2-acre property. First approved in 2020, the store was originally estimated for completion by 2022. As that date came and went, the company cited issues with supply chains, utilities, and changes to Illinois law regarding refrigerants and electrical requirements. In spring 2024, the company told officials they expected to open by spring 2025. Pete's also has converted the shuttered Kmart retail store there into a warehouse. Chick-fil-A also opened in an outlot nearby.

Started in the early 1970s as "a small, full-service produce stand on the south side of Chicago," the grocery chain remains a family-owned business with stores featuring fresh produce, full-service kitchens, bakery, deli, and in-house butchers. Pete's currently has 19 stores in the Chicago area, with four listed as coming soon — including the Tinley Park location.

Orland Park shoppers are already enjoying their new Pete's store, which opened in January. That location took approximately five years to debut, but it had moved into an existing building that was formerly an Art Van Furniture store (and a Dominick's before that).

In New Lenox, a 60,000-square-foot store at 2375 E. Lincoln Highway is also still in progress. Pete's Fresh Market first announced its intention to open in New Lenox in 2017, and with various delays, its opening is now projected for spring 2026.
